Children's Secretary Ed Balls today called for a new drive in schools and local authorities to invest public money effectively, while securing frontline services post-2011. Mr Balls also announced that he would invest £12 million in new 'smart' meters to give schools real-time digital information about their electricity use from January next year thereby helping children learn about climate change, carbon reduction while at the same time helping schools with financial management.
